Once you have identified the power pins, remove the sensor and place the multi-meter leads on the output and earth pins. The real way to check the output pin is with an oscilloscope - but there is a test that can be done with a multi-meter- like this: The diagram above (which I have theived from the web) shows the output pin switching volts between Vcc and GND - but this is not normally the case in real life (Hall effect devices switch close to these voltages). So grab a multi-meter and check if this is the case on your engine (with ignition switched-on but engine not running. Now, again it varies greatly - but Vcc is sometimes 5 Volts, or it can be battery volts, and as a general rule, normally the 2 x outside pins are the power supply.
